Caviar

Today I ordered delivery on Caviar for the first time. I used to order delivery a lot in college and when I lived in NYC. There’s obviously no delivery where I was living in Peru, so I forgot about the magic of having delicious hot food arrive to my door. Monteverde has been on my list since I moved to Chicago, but time flew, I leave in a week, and tonight definitely don’t want to put on clothes and go to the West Loop for dinner alone.  I’ve heard of this Caviar thing so I go to trycaviar.com and what do you know, there's a big beautiful banner up top with:

That new new: Monteverde is now only on Caviar.  Get $0 delivery fees through 8/29.  No promo code needed.

Done.  Like any good millennial I text my best friend asking her to invite me to sign up so we both get $ off the next order. I build my cart and end up with a three-course meal:

  • First course: Artichoke and Sunchoke Crostini. Homemade ricotta, fontina fonduta, shallot, and Savini truffle. One piece.

  • Second course: Fusilli Napoletana. Corkscrew pasta with tomato gravy (not vegetarian).

  • Third course: Chocolate Dipped Forgotten Cookies. One piece. Coconut- chocolate meringue cookie.
Total with $10 new user discount code and $0 delivery fees: $22.38. I hope this counts for triple points.

I am PUMPED. Last time I ordered delivery it was a grilled cheese and milkshake from 7th Avenue Donuts, so truffle and meringue feel like a big upgrade. I decide that to earn this feast I will walk on the treadmill and read a book until the food arrives, since I haven't left the apartment all day. The Food Tracker even blows my mind. "Almost There."  8:02 Myka is en route and will be there in about 17 minutes.  Okuuuurt.

I wait downstairs by the front door because chivalry is not dead.  The delivery lady actually smiles and speaks words to me, maybe just because she’s relieved that she doesn't have to go all the way up to apartment. The goods come in a paper bag with handles(!), NOT drenched in oil, and stamped with the restaurant logo on the front.  There are three boxes carefully stacked, each with a sticker that clearly says item name, ingredients, and allergens.  The stickers also have the cute green logo stamp.  There's one cup of grated parmesan and the top is secured with scotch tape.

The food was amazing AND I didn't spill anything on myself.

I don’t think I’ll be able to order plain ol delivery again because it just can't get any better than this.  Which is funny because I was that person who would call the restaurant directly instead of going on GrubHub or whatever site was most popular a few years ago.

In summary, this whole Caviar thing was delightful: a most civilized dining experience, aside from eating it on my yoga mat, wearing what I'm wearing, and watching I won't even tell you what.

Below are pictures from Caviar's website and my attempts.
